County Academy Programme has been created from Sport England’s desire to provide funding to support the development of players with talent. In essence this programme seeks to achieve the following objectives;

1. Provide coaching to young players with potential in the club network.
2. Educate and develop coaches to support this activity.
Sport England has made approximately £65 million pounds available to sports to support the development of this programme.
Funding is channelled through County Golf Partnerships (CGP) through the development of a county wide ‘Club Coaching Plan’ aimed at developing young players in the club network. This fund is targeted at supporting coaching in clubs for those players with potential to develop as players, possibly to county level and beyond. This programme is predominantly delivered
within the club network by openly recruited coaches who have shown a long term commitment to developing young golfers.
The proportion of funding available to a county will be largely based on the size of the county, the quality and scope of their plan and the scale of delivery - 25% of the funding available to a county will be allocated to girls and dispensation will also be made for players from socially disadvantaged groups and those with disabilities.
CGPs are required to provide regular monitoring and evaluation reports to assess how they are performing against the set outcomes within their plan.
